Like most parents of teenage girls, I have grown accustomed to the
screams that often come from my daughter Jordan and her friends. I have
even learned to tell the difference between their various types of
screams and screeches.So when an especially high-pitched, prolonged
scream emanated from Jordans room a couple of weeks ago, I knew it had
more to do with her favorite band, One Direction, than with Freddy
Krueger. Jordans friend, Emily Gonzales, had just told her that they had
purchased tickets to the first showing of This is Us, the new One

For
those of you who do not spend much time with teenage girls, One
Direction is the latest boy band phenomenon. This is the point where my
daughter gives me that look and says, They are much more than that, Mom.

As the excitement about their movie, which offers a

continued to grow among Jordan and her friends, so did my curiosity.
What is it about this group that has girls of all ages screaming and
parents taking their children as far away as Las Vegas for a One
Direction concert?
On Aug. 29, Jordan, Emily and a third friend,
Ashley Gremillion, arrived at the movie theater almost three hours
before the first showing of This is Us at 7 p.m. Although they were
first in line, they were not alone. Soon nearly 200 teen and pre-teen
girls, along with a few moms and at least one grandmother, were sitting
on the lobby floor of the theater waiting to go in.
Many in the
awaiting crowd were dressed in One Direction shirts and jewelry. Some
even carried boxes of tissues in anticipation of the emotional tears
they would soon shed during the movie.
They spent their time
comparing their knowledge of One Direction trivia. Thanks to the
Internet, the girls know unbelievable amounts of information about their
favorite musical group. Abbey Bennet, a 19-year-old student at the
University of New Orleans, knows that Harry Styles always wears two
pairs of socks. Her 13-year-old sister Katie, a student at St. Mary
Magdalen School in Metairie, knows the boys birthdays, middle names and
everything about them.
Kristen Ray, a junior at Cabrini High
School, knows their blood types. Jordan, like many others, apparently
knows all of this and more. She, along with several other girls I spoke
with, has even seen the ultrasound pictures of each member of One
Direction. Yes, the ones taken before they even born.
The vast
amount of knowledge available about this band, along with the video
diaries that the members make themselves and post regularly on line,
seems to have created a true bond between the group and their fans. Dana
Bennett, mother of Abbey and Katie Bennet, said the group seems to
truly appreciate their fans. Jordan agrees. They are always saying thank
you to the fans for our support.
A bond has also been created
among the One Direction fans, or Directioners, as they are often called.
It was cool how you did not even know the person next to you, but we
are connected by the same obsession, Ashley Gremillion said.

Before
the movie began, the girls had a little jam session, singing not only a
selection of One Direction songs, but also Happy Birthday to an absent

Dana Bennett, who brought
her daughters and her mother, Mel Guggenheim, to the movie, and had
already traveled twice to Houston with her daughters for One Direction
concerts, was expecting the noise. She had already planned on seeing the
movie a second time because she knew the screaming was going to be
overwhelming. Of course, the teenagers planned on seeing it numerous
times also, but not for the same reason.
Bennet appreciates that
the members of One Direction seem like just normal kids that made a big
break. Although she realizes they are making a load of money, she
admits that she also feels sorry for the performers because their real
normal life will never be the same.
As a mom, Bennet is not
concerned about her daughters being extreme One Direction fans. As long
as they keep it clean and keep their fans close to their hearts, we will
continue to ride their wave of fame.

The true leakers
This week the bogeymen of the Washington, D.C., corrupt political
establishment and the whistleblower who leaked alleged national
information to Julian Assange, the head of Wikileaks, Pfc. Bradley
Manning, was convicted in a military court and could face up to 136
years in prison. In another case of alleged espionage, the NSA leaker
who revealed that the Obama administration is spying on all of the phone
and Internet records of over 300 million Americans, obtained temporary
asylum in Russia after the “leaker in chief” and his henchmen, like
Attorney General Eric Holder, threatened to throw the legal book at him
for revealing their unconstitutional intrusion on privacy. Indeed, most
of official Washington, both Democrat and Republican, would like to see
Manning and Snowden burn at the stake in a modern-day equivalent of the
Salem witchcraft trials, if for no other reason than to divert attention
away from their own penchant to leak national security information when
it suits their political purposes. In short, Manning and Snowden are
the “scapegoats” for those government elites who do far worse things
than these two whistleblowers.
In this regard, rearing her truly ugly head this week was none other than the most evil “witch” of them all, Hillary Rodham Clinton. Having skated from committing or aiding and abetting in over 40 scandals during her husband Bill’s felonious administration from 1993 to 2001, and fresh from the revelations of her obstruction of justice related to the Benghazi scandal at the State Department where she reigned as secretary of state from 2009 to 2012, the Bonnie of this Bonnie and Clyde criminal duo was implicated in perhaps the most damaging release of national security information since the Rosenbergs revealed atomic secrets to the Soviet Union in the early 1950s.
While this revelation is hardly surprising, as no crime is below Bonnie, information that she is the likely leaker of state secrets to chief Washington New York Times correspondent David Sanger arose in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit Freedom Watch and I brought against her State Department over the unprecedented revelations, printed in the Times, that revealed the nation’s cyber-warfare sources and methods against Iran’s nuclear reactors and Israeli war plans – should the Jewish state have to take unilateral action to obliterate these sites – among other classified leaks of sensitive information that severely harmed U.S.-Israeli national security.A cleaningservic resembles a credit card in size and shape. These leaks were perpetrated in the lead-up to the November 2012 elections, when the Obama administration was trying to look tough in response to Republican charges that it was soft on Iran.
While I rarely agree with Sen. John McCain, his description of the severity of these leaks hits the mark in this instance. Here is part of what he said at the time on the Senate floor:
“What price did the administration apparently pay to proliferate such a presidential persona – highly valued in an election year? Access. Access to senior administration officials who appear to have served as anonymous sources divulging extremely sensitive military and intelligence information and operations.Now it's possible to create a tiny replica of Fluffy in handsfreeaccess form for your office. …
“The fact that this administration would aggressively pursue leaks perpetrated by a 22-year-old Army private in the Wikileaks matter and former CIA employees in other leaks cases but apparently sanction leaks made by senior administration officials for political purposes,We Engrave luggagetag for YOU. is simply unacceptable. It also calls for the need for a special counsel to investigate what happened.
“In the latest of the recently published articles – published on June 1, 2012, just a few days ago – the New York Times documented in rich detail the president’s secret decision to accelerate cyber attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities with a computer virus that came to be known as Stuxnet. The author of the article,Our top picks for the cableties and gear, Mr. David Sanger, clearly states that former and current American officials spoke to him but refused to do so on the record because the program is both highly classified and parts of it are ongoing. I repeat, the administration officials discussed a most highly classified operation that is both highly classified and still ongoing, an operation that clearly was one of the most tightly held national security secrets in our country until now. And I might point out to my colleagues that this is all about the Iranian effort to acquire nuclear weapons, which is one of the most difficult national security challenges the nation faces.
Of course, there subsequently was no appointment of a special counsel, and characteristically Sen. McCain, after having achieved his primary goal of more media exposure to feed his giant ego, let the issue drop.
But Freedom Watch and I did not let the issue drop, and in documents released just this week as part of our FOIA lawsuit – documents Bonnie and her State Department held back from production for over one year to get beyond the 2012 election – it was revealed that Bonnie and her State Department staff are the likely leakers of this most secretive and damaging national security information. At the bottom of the pile of hundreds of pages of evidence, one document in particular sums up this heinous crime. Coming from Michael Hammer, one of Bonnie’s top officials at State as the assistant secretary of state for public affairs, he writes to Wendy Sherman, the under secretary of state for political affairs (the third-highest ranking official at State), “Wendy – Sanger is writing a book on the Obama Admin’s foreign policy to be published in June. He has talked to scores of people, including the Secretary, Bill, Jake, Kurt, Bob Einhorn and over at NSC and other agencies. While Freedom Watch’s citizens’ grand jury has already indicted Bonnie and Obama for these crimes, look to the Washington establishment, including Bonnie’s Republican buddy John McCain, to circle the wagons yet again to protect her. That is because to protect Bonnie is to someday protect themselves, when other members of the political establishment are called on the carpet for leaking sensitive national security information to suit their ends.
So when you hear the establishment cries vilifying and threatening Manning and Snowden, remember that the real villains are our nation’s government officials who serve not “We the People,” but instead their own political interests.

Euphoric in Greenville
Have you been to Greenville lately? If you still think of it as
Charleston’s little sister, you’d be surprised to see how she’s grown
up. She’s popular, beautiful and full of surprises. Downtown is
revitalized and pulsing with things to do: local shops, art galleries,
museums, upscale hotels and a variety of restaurants that boast
contemporary cuisine with a hearty dollop of Southern hospitality. The
best time to visit may be coming up at the end of September when the
city presents the seventh annual food festival Euphoria.
Since the 1970s, Greenville has worked tirelessly to revitalize its downtown. An innovative public/corporate partnership transformed blocks of vacant storefronts into a cultural and shopping destination. When my husband and I exited the Hyatt Regency Hotel onto Main Street we were immediately swept up in a lively crowd. The entire street was closed to cars. A band was setting up on a concert stage. People were arriving with chairs, strollers and wheelchairs. Jump castles entertained the children while parents enjoyed outdoor dining nearby. Walking towards the food festival, we encountered an outdoor artists’ market where we bought petite handmade mugs from Michelle Wright at her Frolicking Frog Pottery. A block later was the farmer’s market where a table of multi-colored peppers were worthy of Monet. And we hadn’t even arrived at our destination yet!
Greenville stages Euphoria in its transformed venues near the Reedy River and at area restaurants and hotels. The anchor is The Peace Center for the Performing Arts which rose like a phoenix from a languishing industrial area. The Wyche Pavillion, reinvented from an old warehouse, carves a stylish facade along the scenic river. At Friday’s “Taste of the South” over 20 chefs and dozens of vendors whipped up food from the imaginative to the familiar. Our favorite morsel was from the Nosedive Restaurant: a pork taco with cilantro and kimchee. As we mingled with the crowd we struck up a conversation with a young couple about living in Greenville. They told us they’d moved from Charleston with regret. “How could we leave Charleston? But this is why: for young professionals it’s incredibly cheap to live here. I can walk to work. There are festivals like this twice a month and it’s only three hours to Charleston.” Greenville native and Euphoria founding board member Edwin McCain was last year’s headliner.We are one of the leading manufacturers of crystalbeadswholesal in China While we sat on the pavilion steps listening to this “great American romantic”, colorful lights illuminated a backdrop of office buildings and apartments. Among the weekend’s culinary highlights was a lively cooking competition where we watched Charleston chef Craig Diehl compete while a commentator narrated like it was a sporting event. Saturday night’s Guest Chef Dinner at the Lazy Goat featured creations by George Mendes and Victoria Moore after which we truly felt euphoric. New this year is a full pig roast, French Bistro and music from Traffic Jam. But its event is less crowded and less expensive than the larger BB&T Charleston Wine + Food festival.
You have to strategize for the non-stop eating or else you feel like you’ve gone into a restaurant and ordered everything on the menu. Wine tastings, cook-offs, jazz brunch, VIP events, after parties, restaurant dinners and demonstrations can be a little overwhelming. A quick remedy is a short walk further up Main Street across the river to Greenville’s most impressive accomplishment: Falls Park on the Reedy. Walking paths go over Liberty Bridge, a one of a kind pedestrian bridge suspended over waterfalls. The Swamp Rabbit Trail continues on for more than 17 miles past the beautiful Governor’s School for the Arts. Pedestrians and bicyclists enjoy the trail’s easy access to and from downtown’s schools and businesses. Many other hiking and biking trails and waterfalls are nearby.
We closed out the weekend at the Sunday morning Jazz Brunch where a rockin’ New Orleans style band was the soundtrack for a staggering array of food vendors. Mardi Gras beads and paraphernalia abounded. Vats of gumbo, crab cakes, mountains of pastries, variations of Bloody Marys…Intrepidly, we continued our research with journalistic dedication. But as the unexpected sound of a didgeridoo joined the band for a unique rendition of Summertime we finally said “uncle.”
The 400th anniversary of the treaty is commemorated this season with a flotilla of Native Americans representing all the Iroquois tribes, and accompanied by environmentalists and other interested parties, paddling down the Hudson River to Manhattan. It will culminate at the United Nations on August 9, for International Day of Indigenous Peoples.
Along the way, volunteers have put together different celebrations, hosting the many participants in support of the event. Hate in an Elevator
While some poor souls are forced to smoke to escape the drudgery of
their jobs, Im lucky to work in a creative field where I can smoke weed
while I work. Nothing inspires my creativity better than a strong sativa
rolled with nasty, delicious tobacco. I tend to roll a little spliff,
hit it once or twice, let it go out as I keep writing, and rediscover it
15 minutes later. This method worked pretty well until I started
working with guys who make my smoking habit look like a dying ember.
I used to work at VICEs Brooklyn headquarters, but I recently changed jobs, landing a new creative gig in Manhattan. Im 29. In this game that makes me an old fart with nowhere near the professional stamina and weed consumption abilities of the younger dudes I work with. These massively productive beasts work every waking hour, and they get through the day passing around big blunts filled with super-potent flavors carried by some of the pricier local delivery services. When we began working together in the same office, their regimen blew my modest procedure to smithereens. Id come in with my donut and cup of tea, get started on my tasks, and twist-up the customary. As soon as the smell got around, the guys would go, Ohhh shit, its that time! and thus the first blunt would be rolled. My routine became the unwitting trigger for a smoke-fest that fueled us all into overdriveor at least, them into overdrive and me into a half an hour of r/woahdude, then overdrive for about an hour, and then more r/woahdude. It was this very downward spiral I was trying to avoid last week when I decided to pop out for a cigarette and clear my head, avoiding the temptation of tasty blunt number three that was currently in progress just feet behind me.

He stared at me blankly, revealing that he spoke no English, and went right back to hitting the panel's buttons.

This was the moment when the possibility of being stuck in this thing for more than a few minutes began to seem real, and my stonedness prompted a vague inkling of claustrophobia that began to materialize in the back of my neck. Not only was I stuck in a metal box, but I was with the moron who Im pretty sure caused this catastropheI started to get pissed. Turning away from the old man, I repeatedly muttered, "Shitfuck" under my breath in frustration.
This scared the shit out of the old guy, who sort of cowered into the corner. I apologized for scaring him, promised him wed be out of here soon, and dialed 911. As the dispatcher connected me to the fire department, the old man dutifully reported back to the panel and starting fucking with the buttons again. Right when the fire department picked up, I was yelling, Dude, are you trying to fucking kill us?!? The guy on the phone overlooked this exclamation, probably because he knew I was stuck in an elevator. I gave him the address, told him what floor we were on, and quickly hung up the phone so I could stare down the old guy, who was looking at me the way a dog looks at his owner after it shits in the house.
20 minutes later, with no prior technical knowledge of elevator mechanics, I had concluded that the old man had singlehandedly killed the elevator by overwhelming it with his button-pushing, and any further button-pushing would inevitably cause the straps or hooks or whatever to break and send us plummeting to our deaths. What pissed me off most was that this fucker had nothing to lose. Judging by his exterior, he had spent at least a century on this earth, carrying things in plastic bags, trapping innocent people in elevators, and god knows what else. Until that point, my prerogative was to save us both, but I had amended thatif it came down to it, I would dismember the old man and weave his intestines into a rope to lower myself to safety.
Just then, I heard sirens pull up outside the building. As I strained to listen for the voices of the firefighters, the old man decided it would be a perfect time to call his wife and make his stupidity her problem as well. He sounded exasperated on the phone, completely unable to retain even an ounce of decorum in a tough situation. After 80 years with this shithead, youd think his wife would see this elevator debacle as a miracle, hang up, and pray to her gods to finish the job. Instead, she joined him in a chorus of immensely loud whining, on speakerphone, echoing throughout the metal box and seriously fucking up my role in the rescue effort. At long last, I told him to shut the fuck up. I followed that with, And I know you know what that means, because youve definitely been hearing it your entire life. Public-private partnerships can stimulate national
After
reading the 2013/14 financial year Budget, I realised that its high
time Uganda initiated some contemporary forms of project financing. Our
country has pressing infrastructure needs which must be addressed by
enhanced performance in key primary growth-stimulating sectors that will

PPPs have been defined in various ways but I will point out a generic definition: A contractual arrangement between the government and private sector provider in which the two parties enter into a long-term agreement, up to 20 to 30 years, to build a new infrastructure facility or to rehabilitate an existing one for the purpose of undertaking a public service on behalf of the government.
The private party is required, under the terms of the project agreement, to take responsibility to mobilise finance equity as well as debt in order to complete the facility according to agreed specifications and schedule and the latter would benefit by way of i compensation from a revenue fund, ii charges or fees collected by the private party from users or customers, or iii a combination of compensation and charges or fees.
The private party is liable for the risks arising from the performance of its function; and State facilities,You've probably seen handsfreeaccess at some point. equipment or other State resources may be transferred or made available to the private party. A thorough reading of my definition will certainly point the readers to public entities as key engines to drive Uganda to the next level so as to be in consonance with Vision 2040.
Based on the definition above, it is obvious that PPPs can cover many different sectors and also include different levels of risk-transfer/ risk-sharing between the public and private sectors. This flexibility on the issue of what is considered as PPP can allow numerous innovations and variations in structuring projects, as long as they further the overall goal of PPPs, namely, to provide more available and high quality public services that are affordable, and which provide better value for money to both government and end-users without necessarily overstraining the government and the taxpayer.
Specifically, the most important reason behind PPPs is that while the public sector is accountable for ensuring that public services get delivered, it is not, in many cases, the best service provider in terms of cost, quality and ability to manage commercial risks. This limited ability of the public sector to manage commercial performance well is aggravated by the accelerating demand for infrastructure in developing economies of which Uganda is no exception.
PPPs offer better value for public money throughout the entire life of the project by: allocation of each of the projects risks to the party that is best placed to manage each risk, harnessing of private sectors incentives for better innovation, and commercial management expertise by involving the private sector more directly in the provision of public services, more efficient project delivery based on performance-based management principles, often transferring of financing responsibility to the private sector, thus freeing up limited public sector capital budgets to address other pressing social and developmental priorities. Some multilateral development partners, as one of the measures to ensure project viability,We printers print with traceable cleaningsydney to optimize supply chain management. make institutionalisation of PPPs a pre-requisite for governments to qualify for funding.

It is not uncommon for PPPs, despite their justification, to collapse on the shoulders of their initiators during the planning and procurement stages due to lack of proper planning when a lot of resources both human and financial have been wasted.

HP Slate 7 review
The HP Slate 7 is a surprisingly speedy tablet with an enticing ￡129 price tag, but it's competing with tablets like the Google Nexus 7 which features a better display, faster performance, and more up-to-date software. And the features HP touts as distinct feel a bit contrived – the native wireless printing support, while useful, is currently limited to HP printers, and Beats Audio doesn't make that big an impact. The Slate 7 is a good budget-friendly Android tablet that falls somewhere between the Asus MeMO Pad ME172V and the Nexus 7 in terms of price and performance: It’s competitive, but no category killer.
The Slate 7 is a handsomely designed device with a sturdy frame, soft-touch plastic back, and stainless steel accents along its perimeter. Measuring 116 x 10.7 x 197mm (WxDxH), and weighing 370 grams, the Slate 7 is right in line with the MeMO Pad and Nexus 7. There are two stereo speaker grilles along the bottom, flanking a microUSB port for charging and syncing with the included cable and power adapter.
Along the top you'll find the 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD card slot, and Power button, with Volume buttons along the right edge. I'll delve deeper into the Beats Audio later on, but note that the enhancements are for headphone output only and not for the built-in speakers – they get decently loud, but sound tinny, like most tablet speakers.
The 1,024 x 600 resolution LCD is okay. It's lower resolution than the Nexus 7 and not an IPS panel, but the HFFS technology here does produce a wider viewing angle than found on the MeMO Pad's display. The 169 pixels per inch isn't going to blow anyone away, but it doesn't look terrible on the 7in screen.
This is a Wi-Fi only tablet that connects to 802.11b/g/n networks on the 2.4GHz frequency only. You also get Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, which worked fine with a pair of Bluetooth headphones. The tablet comes in a single 8GB model, and our 32GB SanDisk microSD card worked fine, but not our 64GB card.
The Slate 7 is powered by a dual-core 1.6GHz Rockchip Cortex-A9 processor with 1GB of RAM. I had admittedly low expectations for performance, given the low price point, but I was pleasantly surprised. The tablet scored high marks on the Antutu overall system benchmark, coming within striking distance of the quad-core Nexus 7 and easily besting the Asus MeMo Pad. Browsermark and Sunspider benchmarks were equally impressive here, and the Slate 7 actually outperformed the Nexus 7 on some of our graphics benchmarks as well. You get a good helping of processing power with the affordable Slate 7.
HP's first stab at Android is understandably minimal, which will appeal to a large number of Android enthusiasts, but it lacks some genuinely useful features other companies have added through skinning. The Slate 7 is running a near-stock Android 4.1.1. HP promises an update to 4.2, but couldn't give any timetable for release.
There are two main software customisations at work here: Beats Audio and native wireless printing capability. In some products, like the HTC One, the Beats moniker goes with custom hardware like an amplified 3.5mm headphone jack. On others, it's simply a software equalizer that jacks up the bass. The Slate 7 falls in the latter category, but here it's not just booming bass. HP offers specific settings that are tuned for different types of headphones (on-ear or in-ear).
From what I could tell, the main difference between the on-ear and in-ear settings was volume levels, with the in-ear mode reducing the volume. I didn't notice any variations in stereo image when switching back and forth between the two, just volume differences. Now, protecting ears by dropping the volume for in-ear headphones makes sense, but you can achieve that same effect with the volume rocker.

The Slate 7 is a handsomely designed device with a sturdy frame, soft-touch plastic back, and stainless steel accents along its perimeter. Measuring 116 x 10.7 x 197mm (WxDxH), and weighing 370 grams, the Slate 7 is right in line with the MeMO Pad and Nexus 7. There are two stereo speaker grilles along the bottom, flanking a microUSB port for charging and syncing with the included cable and power adapter.
Along the top you'll find the 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD card slot, and Power button, with Volume buttons along the right edge. I'll delve deeper into the Beats Audio later on, but note that the enhancements are for headphone output only and not for the built-in speakers – they get decently loud, but sound tinny, like most tablet speakers.
The 1,024 x 600 resolution LCD is okay. It's lower resolution than the Nexus 7 and not an IPS panel, but the HFFS technology here does produce a wider viewing angle than found on the MeMO Pad's display. The 169 pixels per inch isn't going to blow anyone away, but it doesn't look terrible on the 7in screen.
This is a Wi-Fi only tablet that connects to 802.11b/g/n networks on the 2.4GHz frequency only. You also get Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, which worked fine with a pair of Bluetooth headphones. The tablet comes in a single 8GB model, and our 32GB SanDisk microSD card worked fine, but not our 64GB card.
The Slate 7 is powered by a dual-core 1.6GHz Rockchip Cortex-A9 processor with 1GB of RAM. I had admittedly low expectations for performance, given the low price point, but I was pleasantly surprised. The tablet scored high marks on the Antutu overall system benchmark, coming within striking distance of the quad-core Nexus 7 and easily besting the Asus MeMo Pad. Browsermark and Sunspider benchmarks were equally impressive here, and the Slate 7 actually outperformed the Nexus 7 on some of our graphics benchmarks as well. You get a good helping of processing power with the affordable Slate 7.
HP's first stab at Android is understandably minimal, which will appeal to a large number of Android enthusiasts, but it lacks some genuinely useful features other companies have added through skinning. The Slate 7 is running a near-stock Android 4.1.1. HP promises an update to 4.2, but couldn't give any timetable for release.
There are two main software customisations at work here: Beats Audio and native wireless printing capability. In some products, like the HTC One, the Beats moniker goes with custom hardware like an amplified 3.5mm headphone jack. On others, it's simply a software equalizer that jacks up the bass. The Slate 7 falls in the latter category, but here it's not just booming bass. HP offers specific settings that are tuned for different types of headphones (on-ear or in-ear).
From what I could tell, the main difference between the on-ear and in-ear settings was volume levels, with the in-ear mode reducing the volume. I didn't notice any variations in stereo image when switching back and forth between the two, just volume differences. Now, protecting ears by dropping the volume for in-ear headphones makes sense, but you can achieve that same effect with the volume rocker.

Secondly, if I want to play a game or watch a movie directly on my iPad, I cannot send the audio to a wireless speaker as it will be out of sync with the video over AirPlay and for any other WiFi-based wireless speaker solution. This is because AirPlay uses that oh-so unreliable home WiFi network with higher latency, and if it is 2.4Ghz., it is susceptible to interference from Bluetooth, the neighbors WiFI, microwave ovens and cordless phones. There is hope for audiophiles as a new, disruptive standard is coming to market for premium wireless audio called SKAA.
SKAA comes from the professional and pro-sumer music world. The basis for SKAA is a standard called PAW, or Pro Audio Wireless, and powered the wireless gear for artists like Lady Gaga and Keith Urban. They used PAW in concerts because of its high quality with a high bit rate, long range, and because wasnt susceptible to interference from other 2.4 GHz devices like smartphones and WiFi. SKAA, simply put, is the consumer flavor of PAW, designed for consumer phones, tablets, computers, TVs, and game consoles.
With SKAA, consumers can connect up to 4 speakers from one device, and because it has long range and multi-point capabilities, consumers could have four speakers in the kitchen, living room, dining room, and bed room all broadcasting the same, synchronized audio. Samsung Galaxy S4 review
Having first seen the Samsung Galaxy S4 phone in New York during the
announcement six weeks ago, I was sold on the large 4.99-inch screen and
more defined box shape in a slimmer form factor, even if I questioned
the South Korean giant's continued use of a plastic rear body.
But as I toyed with the S4 at the preview, I realised that most consumers probably would not care much about the external build or internal hardware. After all, most of the discussions on how this phone stacks up against other flagship devices such as the Sony Xperia Z and HTC One so far - and no doubt after this Saturday's local launch - have centred on whether the extra features matter.
Of the three flagship phones, it is the only one that offers a removable, replaceable battery, hence the need for a thinner, plastic cover.
Only the Xperia Z and S4 offer expandable microSD card slots, and while the One has the best design of the three, due to its aluminium unibody, the metal heats up under prolonged use such as when one is watching videos and playing games.About buymosaic in China userd for paying transportation fares and for shopping. The first one allows you to answer calls by moving your hand back and forth across the screen. It might not make sense on a day-to-day basis, but for those connected to Bluetooth or handsfree headsets while driving, you no longer have to look and reach for your phone to take calls.You've probably seen tooling at some point.
If the phone is on standby, placing your hand over the screen will enable Quick Glance, as the screen lights up to reveal missed calls, messages and battery life. This beats pressing the power button and swiping the screen, just to check for incoming notifications.

Then there is Direct Call. If you have a missed call, or are looking at an SMS message or have a contact listed on screen, placing the phone near your face will make the phone dial that number.
Otherwise, there is an Air View feature that makes it easier to browse messages. A pop-up box will appear when users hover a finger over a message in the SMS inbox, revealing the contents within. This also works for folders in the Gallery and Samsung's own Email app, though not for the Gmail one.
Not everything is worth the effort though. There is a gesture control to scroll through photos in the Gallery or skip tracks in the music player, but if the screen is already on, why bother moving your hand when a swipe does the trick?
And unless you are jogging and have the screen turned on, and want to scroll through songs without staring at the screen and losing momentum, allowing gestures for this makes little sense.
Realising this, Samsung has made these features optional and users need to turn them on one by one in the Settings page.
But with so many features, the phone does not always register an option immediately and I found myself having to reboot the phone several times during the set-up process, to ensure that each one works.
And even then, not everything works well.
There is a Smart Pause feature that tracks your eyes when they move away from the screen - to pause video playback. It starts again when a pair of eyes are directed back at the screen.
I found that lighting plays a huge role in enabling this feature, and if a user wears glasses, the multiple reflections of the light source against the screen and glasses can throw the sensors off.
The S4 also introduces Group Play, which enables any S4 to connect with another S4, to share files, music and play games via a private network.
With two S4 units, I started Group Play in one S4 and used a second S4 to join the group that the first one created.
With files, any that I opened from either device could be seen on the other phone. To copy the file from one phone, I simply had to save the open file on the other phone.
It was the same with photos, as I selected 24 to be shared via Group Play. On the second phone, the same list appeared and I could choose to save one photo, or all 24 at the same time.
All files are saved in the Group Play folder, so users have to move them to the respective folders in their phones for easy access.
The interesting thing is that these files are mirrored across both devices during the share, so I cannot choose to view one photo on one phone, and another on the second phone, unless I save the files locally.
The music sharing feature is slightly different, as either phone can start playing a song, which the other phone is then able to play back as a second speaker.
Once this is done though, the phone that triggered the playback would be the master device and be able to control the volume of any other connected S4 units, even if the owner of the other S4 changes the volume manually.
The range of this music play is also pretty far, as both phones I tested were able to maintain a connection about 10m away.
For games, there are only two with multiplayer modes. While the S4 units can share files, an active data connection cannot be shared between phones using Group Play.

It might not make sense on a day-to-day basis, but for those connected to Bluetooth or handsfree headsets while driving, you no longer have to look and reach for your phone to take calls.You've probably seen tooling at some point.
If the phone is on standby, placing your hand over the screen will enable Quick Glance, as the screen lights up to reveal missed calls, messages and battery life. This beats pressing the power button and swiping the screen, just to check for incoming notifications.
Otherwise, the Smart Alert motion will make the phone vibrate when you pick it up,Shop for fridgemagnet dolls from the official NBC Universal Store and build a fun collection for your home or office. informing you if there are messages. No activity means you do not have to turn the phone on to check.
Then there is Direct Call. If you have a missed call, or are looking at an SMS message or have a contact listed on screen, placing the phone near your face will make the phone dial that number.
Otherwise, there is an Air View feature that makes it easier to browse messages. A pop-up box will appear when users hover a finger over a message in the SMS inbox, revealing the contents within. This also works for folders in the Gallery and Samsung's own Email app, though not for the Gmail one.
Not everything is worth the effort though. There is a gesture control to scroll through photos in the Gallery or skip tracks in the music player, but if the screen is already on, why bother moving your hand when a swipe does the trick?
And unless you are jogging and have the screen turned on, and want to scroll through songs without staring at the screen and losing momentum, allowing gestures for this makes little sense.
Realising this, Samsung has made these features optional and users need to turn them on one by one in the Settings page.
But with so many features, the phone does not always register an option immediately and I found myself having to reboot the phone several times during the set-up process, to ensure that each one works.
And even then, not everything works well.
There is a Smart Pause feature that tracks your eyes when they move away from the screen - to pause video playback. It starts again when a pair of eyes are directed back at the screen.
I found that lighting plays a huge role in enabling this feature, and if a user wears glasses, the multiple reflections of the light source against the screen and glasses can throw the sensors off.
The S4 also introduces Group Play, which enables any S4 to connect with another S4, to share files, music and play games via a private network.
With two S4 units, I started Group Play in one S4 and used a second S4 to join the group that the first one created.
With files, any that I opened from either device could be seen on the other phone. To copy the file from one phone, I simply had to save the open file on the other phone.
It was the same with photos, as I selected 24 to be shared via Group Play. On the second phone, the same list appeared and I could choose to save one photo, or all 24 at the same time.
All files are saved in the Group Play folder, so users have to move them to the respective folders in their phones for easy access.
The interesting thing is that these files are mirrored across both devices during the share, so I cannot choose to view one photo on one phone, and another on the second phone, unless I save the files locally.
The music sharing feature is slightly different, as either phone can start playing a song, which the other phone is then able to play back as a second speaker.
Once this is done though, the phone that triggered the playback would be the master device and be able to control the volume of any other connected S4 units, even if the owner of the other S4 changes the volume manually.
The range of this music play is also pretty far, as both phones I tested were able to maintain a connection about 10m away.
For games, there are only two with multiplayer modes. While the S4 units can share files, an active data connection cannot be shared between phones using Group Play.
Built-wise, the phone still has curves on all corners, but I prefer the flat metallic sides here compared with the curved ones on the Galaxy S III.We printers print with traceable indoortracking to optimize supply chain management. This is also the first phone to have Samsung's full HD Super Amoled 1,920 x 1,080 display, at 441 pixels per inch. The screen is a beauty, offering vibrant colours and sharp tones.

Visits by Indian leaders were better under BJP: Israel
JERUSALEM: Lamenting the lack of high-level visits from India under the UPA government, senior officials at the Israeli foreign ministry told US diplomats that it was "better under the Bhartiya Janata Party government," according to a classified US diplomatic cable released by WikiLeaks.
Despite burgeoning defence and trade ties, " Israel is concerned about the lack of high-level visits and other exchanges with India. The last visit by an Indian Foreign Minister was in 2000, with a November 2007 visit called off at the last minute," deputy Director general for Asia and Pacific at Israel's foreign ministry Ruth Kahanoff told US diplomats.
"Kahanoff believes that India is restrained in the relationship (with Israel) by its large Muslim population, their concern about relations with the Arab world, and lingering elements of the Non-Aligned Movement/Nehru ideology," the US embassy cable revealed by WikiLeaks said.
Giora Bacher, Director at Israel's foreign ministry Asia and Pacific Desk, also attending the meeting, added that the "visits were actually better under the Bharatiya Janata Party government".
Kahanov also pointed out to US political counsellor Marc Sievers and others present during the December 2007 meeting that former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon visited India in 2003, but no Indian Prime Minister has ever come to Israel.
He also complained about Indian Vice President Hamid Ansari giving a speech attacking Israel, which she saw "as a sign that India is still trying to find its place in the world".
Bacher told US officials that her country's current relationship with India is dominated by defence cooperation and other trade.
The Israeli official noted that initially 95 per cent of the bilateral trade between the two countries was in diamonds, but it is now down to 70 per cent, and there is significant investment in real estate and businesses on both sides as both the countries' economy continue to liberalise.

US ambassador to Mexico resigns amid uproar over leaked cable criticizing Mexico's drug fight
The U.S. ambassador to Mexico resigned Saturday amid furor over a leaked diplomatic cable in
which he complained about inefficiency and infighting among Mexican security forces in the
campaign against drug cartels.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, in Paris to meet with U.S. allies on Libya,
said Carlos Pascual's decision to step down was "based upon his personal desire to ensure the
strong relationship between our two countries and to avert issues" raised by President Felipe
Calderon.
Clinton didn't say specifically what she was referring to, but a furious Calderon has
publicly criticized Pascual's cable, which was divulged by the WikiLeaks website.
Pascual's resignation — less than two weeks since President Barack Obama met with Calderon
at the White House — appeared to be the biggest fallout yet from thousands of sensitive U.S.
diplomatic cables from around the world released by WikiLeaks. It was the first such public
departure by a U.S. ambassador during the Obama administration.
Mexico's government offered a polite and muted response, offering "its best wishes to
Ambassador Carlos Pascual in the duties he will undertake after concluding his post in our
country."
"Institutional contacts between both countries are solid, as it should be between the
neighboring and friendly countries with common goals," Calderon's office said in a statement.
"The Mexican government reiterates its commitment to consolidating the principles of shared
responsibility, trust and mutual respect as the basis of bilateral ties with the United
States."
Clinton took the unusual step of announcing the departure of an individual member of the
diplomatic corps, and while she was on the road meeting with U.S. allies to discuss the
commencement of military attacks on Moammar Gadhafi's Libyan government.
She went to lengths to praise Pascual's work in Mexico and said the Obama administration
never lost confidence in him. Clinton said Pascual's work with Mexico to build institutions
capable of fighting drug traffickers "will serve both our nations for decades."
She added that she was "particularly grateful to Carlos for his efforts to sustain the morale
and security of American personnel after tragic shootings in Mexico" that killed a U.S.
employee, her husband and a Mexican tied to the consulate in the border city of Ciudad Juarez
last year.
"It is with great reluctance that President Obama and I have acceded to Carlos's request" to
step down, Clinton said in a statement.
The ambassador's resignation, however, laid bare how difficult relations between the U.S.
Embassy and the Mexican government had become since the release of the cable in December.
